Short Biography

In 2005 Verónica García Vázquez received her M.Sc. in Telecommunication Engineering from the Universidad Carlos III (Spain). In 2006, she joined the Laboratorio de Imagen Médica (Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, Spain). She participated in research projects related to image-guided procedures, intraoperative electron radiation therapy (IOERT), surgical planning of oculomotor dysfunctions, small animal PET/CT scanners and statistical parametric mapping (SPM) analysis of small animal imaging. In 2017 she was awarded a PhD in Multimedia and Communications by the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain), International mention (visiting scholarship at Clinical Image Guidance Laboratory, Brigham and Women´s Hospital, USA).  Her thesis focused on evaluating new approaches to improve on existing information about IOERT such as the use of a multi-camera optical tracking system and some kilovoltage computed tomography (CT) technologies to acquire intraoperative images for estimating IOERT dose distributions. In 2018, she joined to the Institute of Robotics and Cognitive Systems at the University of Lübeck as a research assistant to work in Nav EVAR project (see video), which focuses on reducing the application of radiation and contrast agent in endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) by means of technologies such us navigation, electromagnetic tracking systems, fiber Bragg gratings, augmented reality, intraoperative ultrasound imaging and optical coherence tomography.
